The Gujarat government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Meta Platforms Inc to facilitate nearly 20 citizen-centric services through WhatsApp, enhancing accessibility for residents. This initiative is part of the 'Sugam Digital Gujarat' program, which aims to digitize government services for better efficiency. Services available will include income, caste, and EWS certificates, as well as updates to ration cards and revenue records. By using WhatsApp, the government seeks to eliminate the need for citizens to navigate multiple web portals or stand in long queues at government offices, thereby saving time and increasing transparency. The state government emphasized that this partnership marks a significant shift towards citizen-centric governance, allowing for real-time tracking of service requests. However, the exact timeline for the launch of these services remains unclear as the integration process is still ongoing. The initiative follows recommendations from the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission (GARC), which identified the most availed services based on user data.
