On May 16, a Croatia Airlines Airbus A220-300, operating flight OU412 from Split to Frankfurt, skidded off the runway during an aborted take-off at Split Airport in Croatia. The aircraft, carrying 130 passengers and five crew members, veered off the tarmac and halted on the grass, triggering panic among those on board. Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without any reported injuries. The aircraft sustained damage after hitting runway edge lights and a vertical marker sign while accelerating for departure. In response to the incident, Split Airport was temporarily closed as emergency teams worked to remove the aircraft and inspect the runway. Croatia Airlines confirmed that the crew followed prescribed safety procedures during the aborted take-off, which is a critical maneuver performed when pilots detect a potential issue. An investigation has been initiated by the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency and the Air, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation Agency to determine the cause of the incident.
