According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, Bangladeshi nationals were the most arrested foreign nationals in India, with 3,091 arrests in 2024. West Bengal topped the states with 992 crimes committed by foreigners, while Delhi led the Union Territories with 64 crimes against foreigners. The report highlighted that a total of 4,794 foreign nationals were arrested, including 944 women and 11 transgender persons, primarily under the Foreigners Act and the Registration of Foreigners Act. Notably, crimes against foreigners rose from 238 cases in 2023 to 257 in 2024, with Maharashtra recording the highest number of such cases at 41. The NCRB data also revealed that Nepali nationals were the highest among foreign victims, totaling 71 cases, followed by Bangladeshi nationals at 52.
