Thane police have clarified that a man seen in a viral video, who appeared disoriented on the streets of Bhayander, Maharashtra, was not under the influence of a so-called 'zombie drug' but had overdosed on Pregabalin, a medication used to treat nerve pain. The individual, Sameer Rajendra Rawal, a 22-year-old labourer from Achham district, Nepal, had been living on the streets near Borivali Railway Station in Mumbai. He was identified after police launched an investigation following claims on social media. Rawal disclosed that he had been addicted to Pregabalin for the past two years, purchasing the tablets illegally from a local medical shop. On April 13, he consumed five tablets at once, leading to his disoriented state captured in the video. Authorities have since inspected the medical shop involved and reported the shopkeeper to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for supplying Schedule-H drugs without a prescription.
