On Saturday morning, students at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Urdu school in Kharalwadi found insects in their mid-day meal, leading to immediate complaints and an official inquiry. The incident was reported around 9:50 AM when students alerted teachers after noticing the contamination. Mamta Shinde, deputy commissioner of PCMC, stated that the complaint has been received and a detailed inquiry will be conducted, with appropriate actions taken against those responsible. Advocate Sagar Charan, former vice-chairman of the PCMC health department grievance redressal committee, submitted a written complaint to municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, calling the situation a “grave concern” and accusing the school of gross negligence and failure to maintain food safety standards. The school, which caters to over 300 students from Classes I to VIII, receives its meals through the Pune Zilla Parishad under the mid-day meal scheme. DV Bhogawade, joint commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Pune region, announced that a team will visit the school on Monday to assess the situation and take necessary actions as per the Food Safety and Standards Act.
