Delhi's peak power demand surged to 7,078 megawatts (MW) at 3:30 PM, marking the first time it crossed the 7,000 MW threshold in April. This spike in demand is attributed to extreme heatwave conditions affecting the region, which have driven up electricity consumption as residents rely heavily on cooling systems. At the national level, peak power demand reached a record 256 gigawatts (GW), reflecting a broader trend of increasing energy needs across India. BSES discoms successfully managed to meet peak demands of 3,159 MW and 1,446 MW in their respective areas, ensuring a reliable power supply to over 53 lakh consumers and nearly 2.25 crore residents in South, West, East, and Central Delhi. The discoms have implemented various strategies, including long-term power purchase agreements and demand forecasting tools, to maintain uninterrupted service. Renewable energy sources are expected to play a crucial role, with 2,670 MW of green power, including solar, hydro, and wind, contributing significantly to the supply during the summer months.
