In the lead-up to the Assam Assembly election results on May 4, Congress leaders, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, expressed strong confidence in their coalition's ability to form a government. The alliance, which includes the Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI(M), APHLC, and CPI(ML), has dismissed exit polls suggesting a comfortable majority for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi criticized these polls as an attempt by the BJP to manipulate public perception. He emphasized that voters, particularly farmers, youths, and women, are ready for change. Shivakumar echoed this sentiment, citing a climate of fear that has led voters to hesitate in expressing their true preferences. He also noted that some BJP leaders have begun to approach Congress members, indicating a loss of confidence in their electoral success. Exit polls predict that the NDA may secure between 88 to 100 seats out of 126, while the Congress alliance is projected to win 24 to 36 seats. The upcoming vote counting will be closely monitored by all parties involved.
