The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa is moving closer to establishing its permanent campus as the Union Ministry of Education has relaxed the land requirement from 10 lakh square metres to 4.5 lakh square metres. This new site is located within the Goa College of Engineering (GEC) campus in Farmagudi. The Goa government has submitted a fresh proposal for the site, and an inspection team is expected to assess its suitability soon. This decision comes after nearly a decade of challenges in finding a suitable location due to public opposition and land-related issues. Currently, IIT Goa operates from a temporary campus, limiting its expansion capabilities and access to certain grants. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant previously indicated that the permanent campus would be established at Farmagudi, and with the land issue resolved, the project is set to progress, pending final approval from the Centre after the inspection.
