The Jaipur district administration has imposed a temporary internet ban as a precautionary measure ahead of an anti-encroachment drive scheduled by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). This decision, announced by Jaipur Divisional Commissioner V Saravana Kumar, aims to prevent the spread of rumors and maintain public peace amid concerns over potential unrest. The drive, taking place in the Jagatpura area, involves widening a road from its current width of 25-30 feet to the designated 80 feet. This operation will necessitate the demolition of five religious structures, including a mosque, two temples, a satsang hall, and a mazar, all of which fall within the road's right-of-way. To support this initiative, additional police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. Anand Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of the JDA Vigilance Wing, noted that a previous operation on May 22 had successfully removed 134 encroachments. Owners of the affected structures had been given prior notice to dismantle their constructions, but with the deadline expired, the administration has moved to enforce compliance directly.
