The extended Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 30, will feature 20 coaches to meet the high demand from commuters. This service, which will officially start regular operations on May 2, aims to significantly reduce travel time between the capitals of Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing tourism and providing a reliable all-weather transport link. The train will cover a distance of approximately 267 km in about five hours, with two pairs of services running six days a week. Passengers will benefit from direct travel from Jammu Tawi to Katra and Srinagar without the need for train changes. Additionally, Vaishnaw will inspect the Anji and Chenab Bridges on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link, which was constructed at a total cost of ₹43,780 crore (roughly $5.3 billion USD) and includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges.
