S Gurumurthy, a political commentator, expressed concerns over the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, for its handling of coalition negotiations in Tamil Nadu. He stated that the Congress party's insistence on presenting a coalition government claim, rather than allowing TVK to assert itself as the single-largest party, complicated the situation. This led to the governor being placed in a challenging position regarding government formation. Gurumurthy noted that Vijay's letter claiming support from 120 MLAs was misleading, as the actual number of supporters was only 116, resulting in a tie in the 232-member assembly. Despite these challenges, Gurumurthy believes that Vijay has a chance of becoming Chief Minister due to the backing of parties like Congress and the Communist Party of India (CPI). He characterized the ongoing political situation in Tamil Nadu as chaotic, with various parties engaging in haggling and bargaining. Gurumurthy anticipates that the political drama will resolve by May 10, 2026, but cautioned that the landscape remains fluid, with potential shifts among smaller parties. He also criticized the AIADMK and DMK parties, suggesting that they are entrenched in corrupt practices and that the electorate has begun to reject their influence.
