The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) are in talks to establish a long-term partnership aimed at enhancing athletics through training camps and mutual athlete participation. During a recent visit to India by RusAF officials, it was noted that while the foundations for cooperation are being laid, no specific programs have been finalized. Russian athletes will be able to compete in national competitions in India, while Indian athletes will have opportunities to train in Russia. Additionally, coaches from both nations are expected to exchange experiences to strengthen grassroots sports development. Currently, Russian coaches, including former world champion Sergey Makarov, are already working with the AFI. Despite the discussions, the ongoing ban on Russian athletes from international competitions due to the invasion of Ukraine remains a significant issue.
