Shahnawaz Khan, a promising long jumper from Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the U20 national record with an impressive jump of 8.23m at the 24th National Junior Athletics Federation Cup held in Tumkur, Karnataka. This achievement not only earned him a gold medal but also secured his place in the upcoming Asian Junior Athletics Championships, as well as positioning him as a strong contender for the World U20 Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. Shahnawaz expressed his determination to excel at the Asian Games, stating, 'I am leaving no stone unturned to make it happen.' His journey in athletics has been influenced by his family's sporting legacy, particularly his uncle, a former national-level athlete. After overcoming personal challenges, including the loss of his father, Shahnawaz has trained rigorously, showing significant improvement this year with jumps of 7.70m and 7.90m in previous competitions. Under the guidance of his coach, Bhupinder Singh, he is focused on pushing his limits further in upcoming meets.
