The Trump administration will soon launch a refund system for businesses that paid tariffs later invalidated by the Supreme Court, marking a significant step towards reimbursing $166 billion in tariffs. Starting at 8 am ET, importers and their brokers can file claims through an online portal managed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Over 330,000 importers paid these tariffs on more than 53 million shipments. If approved, refunds will be processed within 60-90 days. Major companies like FedEx and Costco are among the 3,000 businesses seeking refunds, with FedEx indicating potential refunds for customers and Costco hinting at lower prices for consumers. The U.S. National Retail Federation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have both called for a swift refund process, emphasizing the economic benefits for businesses and consumers alike. Small businesses, in particular, have faced financial challenges due to these tariffs, and refunds could provide much-needed relief to reinvest in operations and support growth.
