Indian Railways is set to construct the first semi-high-speed rail corridor between Ahmedabad and Dholera in Gujarat, covering a distance of 134 kilometers. The project, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on May 13, 2026, is expected to cost around ₹20,667 crore (roughly $2.5 billion USD) and aims to significantly reduce travel time to just 48 minutes. The corridor will feature a design speed of 220 km/h and an operational speed of 200 km/h. It will include 74 km of viaducts, three mega bridges, 39 Road Under Bridges, and two Rail Over Bridges, with a total of 13 stations planned along the route. This initiative will not only improve daily commuting but also strengthen connectivity to major locations such as the upcoming Dholera Airport and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex. Furthermore, the project will integrate with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor and local metro services, enhancing overall transportation efficiency in the region.
