After months of operating single-car trains due to safety concerns with wheel bearings, Ottawa's LRT Line 1 is set to resume double-car train service starting Monday. OC Transpo announced that double-car trains will run every five minutes during peak times on weekdays, while single-car service will still be in effect on weekends. The decision to return to double-car service comes after contractors discovered metal flaking in the cartridge bearing assemblies, leading to restrictions on train operations. With improvements in the supply of necessary components and advancements in monitoring systems, OC Transpo is now able to provide full service. This change is welcomed by commuters and advocacy groups, who have faced less than optimal service since January. Transit services general manager Rick Leary had previously aimed for a mid-June return but has successfully expedited the process, indicating a commitment to improving transit reliability for Ottawa residents.
