Residents and motorists in Thuraiyur are calling for the widening of the Thuraiyur Bypass, which spans 3.4 km and has been operational since June 2012. This bypass is essential for alleviating congestion in Thuraiyur town and accommodates a significant amount of traffic, particularly heavy vehicles transporting goods from cement factories in the Ariyalur area. N. Saravanan, a local road safety activist, highlighted the continuous traffic flow and the necessity for paved shoulders to improve road safety. He pointed out that the recently opened Manachanallur bypass, which is 13.5 meters wide and equipped with paved shoulders, demonstrates the potential benefits of such upgrades. With the ongoing widening of the Perambalur-Thuraiyur State highway, traffic on the Thuraiyur Bypass is expected to increase further. Additionally, the presence of a temporary bus stand near the Sorathur Four Road adds to the urgency of the situation. The Highways Department has acknowledged the demand and plans to submit a proposal for the bypass's widening to the government for funding approval.
