The Delhi government has submitted a draft of the new State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC 2.0) to the Union environment ministry for final approval. This updated plan replaces the 2019 version, which relied on outdated data and did not account for recent weather extremes. Delhi's environment minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, emphasized that SAPCC 2.0 is more comprehensive and action-oriented, aligning with India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new plan incorporates recent climate science, updated datasets, and district-level vulnerability assessments, defining specific mitigation and adaptation actions with measurable targets up to 2030. Key priorities include urban afforestation initiatives, such as the development of urban forests and sustainable land-use planning. The revision of the SAPCC was first announced in 2024, prompted by rapid environmental degradation, and has been shaped by a committee of experts overseen by the Delhi chief secretary. Following a review meeting in September last year, the plan was expedited and has now been submitted for approval.
