On Monday, farmers from various organizations protested at the Ladhowal toll plaza in Ludhiana, Punjab, making it toll-free for three hours. This demonstration was organized by the Azad Kisan Morcha Punjab, a coalition of 16 farmer groups, in response to the government's failure to provide compensation for crop losses caused by floods and unseasonal rains. Farmers stated that the government had promised compensation by April 30, but no relief had been received. They reported significant damage to standing paddy crops and raised concerns about tenant farmers who have also suffered losses but have not been compensated. During the protest, farmer representatives mentioned that they had been invited for discussions by Punjab's governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, in Chandigarh. They warned that if the government does not address their concerns promptly, they would escalate their agitation in the coming days.
