After withdrawing the controversial Land Pooling Policy (LPP) 2025 due to strong opposition, the Punjab government has introduced a revised framework to better serve landowners. The new draft, prepared by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is set to be presented at the upcoming cabinet meeting. It aims to enhance transparency, flexibility, and equity in land acquisition while addressing concerns raised by stakeholders. Key changes include extending the validity of the Sahuliyat Certificate from two years to four years, allowing farmers more time to explore alternatives. Compensation rates have also been increased, with commercial benefits raised to 210 square yards per acre and residential benefits to 1,630 square yards per acre. The revised policy emphasizes fairness by mandating that all plots be included in the draw of lots, eliminating discretionary allotments. Additionally, the government plans to integrate village infrastructure with urban development, ensuring essential facilities are exempt from acquisition and improving overall service delivery.
