In a significant change, Karnataka will shift its free entrance exam coaching program for science students in government and aided pre-university (PU) colleges from online to offline mode starting from the upcoming academic year. The Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) has proposed this change to improve preparation for competitive exams such as the Common Entrance Test (CET), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Previously, the coaching was conducted online through a private coaching institute based in Mumbai, but the program will now be led by existing PU lecturers who will receive special training. Bharath S, director of DPUE in Bengaluru, highlighted that earlier results were not satisfactory due to the late commencement of coaching. By implementing offline coaching, the department hopes to achieve better outcomes for students, particularly those from financially weaker backgrounds. The coaching sessions will be held outside regular class hours. Additionally, a hybrid model is being considered for colleges with fewer science students, although a final decision is pending.
