Members of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisations (FAPTO) have formally requested the School Education Department to approve Earned Leave (EL) for teachers conducting special and remedial classes for students who failed the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. In their representation to Thameem Ansariya, the Director of School Education, FAPTO members noted that the authorities had mandated these classes to help improve the pass percentage. However, they expressed concerns about the irregular attendance of students who typically struggle academically, citing that many are unlikely to consistently attend these classes due to various socio-economic factors. To enhance attendance, FAPTO proposed organizing separate residential classes for girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and for boys in Model Schools at mandal headquarters. They also criticized the practice of requiring teachers to engage in multiple programs during vacation periods and called for a review of the current “Vacation Department” system, suggesting a shift to a “Non-Vacation Department” model. The federation emphasized the need for proper written orders regarding teacher participation in programs like the “Badi Pilustondi” enrolment drive, rather than relying on oral instructions.
