In response to rising temperatures and the risk of a heatwave, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has implemented strict guidelines for its schools. MCD Education Committee chairman Yogesh Verma emphasized that the safety and health of children are the top priorities. The guidelines include limiting outdoor assemblies and prohibiting classes held outside. To combat dehydration, a 'water bell' system will encourage students to drink water every 45-60 minutes, and schools will ensure the availability of clean drinking water. A 'buddy system' will be introduced to promote peer support among students, and outdoor sports activities will be discouraged. Awareness sessions on heat protection and hydration will be held to educate students on identifying heat-related symptoms. With over 1,500 primary schools serving more than 800,000 students in Delhi, these measures aim to safeguard children's health during extreme weather. Parents are advised to dress their children in light, cotton clothing and maintain personal hygiene. Each school will appoint a nodal officer to oversee the implementation of these guidelines.
