Telangana's Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a special enforcement drive on June 6, 2026, inspecting 166 medical shops to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Of these, 159 shops were associated with online medicine delivery services, while 7 were linked to online B2B platforms like IndiaMART. The DCA uncovered several irregularities, including the failure to maintain sales bills, prescription drug registers, and dispensing prescription medications without valid prescriptions from registered medical practitioners. In response, the DCA issued Show Cause Notices to 41 medical shops, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to statutory requirements. The DCA warned that any deviations from the regulations would result in stringent actions as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, underlining the importance of compliance for all medical establishments, including those operating online.
