The agriculture department in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, India, has commenced early preparations for the kharif cropping season, which typically starts in June. Deputy Director of Agriculture Pawan Kumar Vishwakarma announced that a district-level action plan is being developed to ensure sufficient fertiliser availability. This includes assessing demand and aligning supply arrangements. Monitoring committees have been set up to inspect the stocks of fertiliser dealers, verifying inventories to prevent shortages during peak demand. To facilitate distribution, farmers are required to possess a Farmer ID, with around 600,000 farmers registered on the district portal and 550,000 having received IDs. Fertiliser allocation will be linked to landholding, with farmers owning one hectare eligible for seven bags of urea and five bags of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate). Last season, the division successfully met its targets of 212,652 metric tonnes of urea and 44,105 metric tonnes of DAP. Authorities are also enhancing supply mechanisms and monitoring to combat black marketing and hoarding.
