IIT Roorkee has firmly stated that it will not relax the Class 12 eligibility criteria for admission through JEE Advanced, despite the ongoing controversy regarding the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. The institute emphasized that maintaining the criteria is essential as candidates from 36 different boards are involved, and relaxing standards could disadvantage students who meet the requirements. Many students, especially those from the Science stream, have expressed concerns over unexpectedly low marks attributed to the OSM system, leading to fears of ineligibility for IIT admissions. In response, CBSE has recognized some errors in evaluations and opened a grievance redressal process, receiving over 70,000 applications for mark verification and re-evaluation. While IIT Roorkee is in discussions with CBSE to address these issues, it has reiterated that the eligibility benchmark will remain unchanged.
