Karnataka's Minister for Minor Irrigation, N S Boseraju, reported that the state's 3,788 minor irrigation tanks are currently holding significant water levels, crucial for supporting approximately 445,009 hectares of agricultural land. According to the latest data, 165 tanks are completely full, while 1,355 tanks have more than 51% capacity, and 1,143 tanks are at 50% capacity. Notably, Davanagere district has the highest number of full tanks at 27, closely followed by Chikkamagaluru with 46. The minister highlighted that 1,184 tanks are being actively filled through 145 lift irrigation projects, emphasizing the government's commitment to effective water management. Boseraju attributed the positive water retention levels to favorable monsoon rainfall and proactive government strategies.
