The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced repolling at 15 polling stations across two constituencies in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, due to complaints of alleged vote tampering during the second phase of the 2026 Assembly elections. The repolling is set for May 2, affecting 11 polling stations in the 142-Magrahat Paschim Assembly Constituency and four polling stations in the 143-Diamond Harbour Assembly Constituency. The decision to void the previous polling conducted on April 29 was made under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Both constituencies have been significant for the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, which has maintained strong influence in the region. Allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were raised, particularly by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that buttons for their candidates were obscured to mislead voters. The ECI confirmed at least 23 cases of alleged tampering, with 20 cases reported from Falta alone. The political climate remains tense as accusations of manipulation have led to confrontations between rival parties.
