On Monday, the anti-extortion cell of Pimpri-Chinchwad police, Maharashtra, arrested Mahadev Ganpat Shewale, a 38-year-old resident of Rahatani, for allegedly ordering illegal weapons through Facebook. During a special operation directed by police commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, officers seized a cache of weapons including five steel swords and five steel kukris, valued at ₹57,000. The police intercepted the consignment at a private courier company warehouse in Mohan Nagar following specific intelligence. Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were sourced from suppliers in Punjab and Rajasthan, intended for distribution in Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby districts like Dhule and Aurangabad. Shewale, who works in the transportation business, was taken into custody and presented in court, where he was granted police custody for three days.
