A writ petition has been submitted to the Madras High Court against Thalapathy Vijay, the prominent actor and chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), seeking a First Information Report (FIR) related to alleged income tax irregularities from his 2015 film Puli. The petition claims that during income tax raids in September 2015, evidence was found indicating unaccounted cash transactions involving ₹4.93 crore paid in cash to Vijay, in addition to a cheque of ₹16 crore for his role in the film. The case was initially not numbered by the court's Registry but was later directed to be numbered by a division bench. This legal issue arises as Vijay's political career is on the rise; his party has recently secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, although it still requires alliances to form a government. Speculation is rife about potential alliances with the DMK or AIADMK, and Vijay has reportedly reached out to the state governor to seek an invitation to form the government, with expectations of taking the oath as Chief Minister on May 7.
