The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala is set to take oath on May 18, with V D Satheesan as the Chief Minister following a significant victory in the Assembly elections. The UDF won 102 seats in the 140-member Assembly, marking the end of the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) decade-long governance, which was reduced to 35 seats. Satheesan, a veteran legislator representing the Paravur constituency in Ernakulam district since 2001, has been instrumental in revitalizing the Congress organization in Kerala after previous electoral defeats. His leadership was pivotal in the UDF's success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and subsequent local body polls. Known for his sharp critiques of the LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheesan has also been recognized for his strong organizational control within the party, especially during internal controversies.
