The political tension in Tamil Nadu escalated as the AIADMK accused the ruling Thamizhaga Vazhvu Katchi (TVK) government of engaging in ‘horse-trading’ to consolidate its power in the Assembly. AIADMK MLA Agri Krishnamurthy, representing the faction led by General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), expressed concerns about recent defections among AIADMK legislators. He noted that 25 party MLAs voted in favor of the TVK government during a confidence motion, contrary to party directives. In response, the AIADMK submitted a petition to the Assembly Speaker, J.C.D. Prabhakar, seeking action against these legislators under the anti-defection law. Krishnamurthy criticized the Speaker's acceptance of resignations from three MLAs while disqualification proceedings were still pending, raising concerns about procedural integrity. He warned that the current political maneuvers could destabilize Tamil Nadu's political landscape, potentially leading to more defections. His remarks emphasized the need for adherence to democratic norms within the Assembly.
