On Sunday, the Shree Jagannath Society in Japan celebrated the Chandan Yatra in Tokyo for the third consecutive year, bringing together 280 devotees and guests at the Radhakrishna temple. The rituals, led by Pandit Munindra Panda, included the chanting of the ‘Vishnu Sahastranam’, which involves reciting the 1,008 names of Lord Vishnu, along with offerings of flowers and sandalwood paste to deities. Eight children from the Odia diaspora participated by chanting mantras that emphasize incorporating spirituality into daily life, guided by society member Lopamudra Thatoi. The event also featured a cultural program organized by Sanjib Swain, showcasing group and solo bhajans, as well as a Bharatnatyam dance performance by Mai Kikuchi. The Shree Jagannath Society aims to foster social harmony and cross-cultural collaboration between Indian and Japanese communities through these celebrations, which also include events like Rath Yatra and Makar Sankranti.
