HDFC Life Insurance reported a 4% year-on-year increase in profit, reaching ₹495.6 crore for the January–March quarter of FY26, despite facing challenges due to changes in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and labor code regulations. The company's parent, HDFC Bank, will infuse ₹1,000 crore through a preferential share issuance, raising its stake in HDFC Life to 50.5% from 50.2%. This capital infusion will improve HDFC Life's solvency ratio to 186%, up from 177%, although it has decreased from 194% in Q4 FY25. The insurance regulator mandates a minimum solvency ratio of 150%. HDFC Life's net premium income grew by 8.68% year-on-year to ₹25,829.43 crore, while the total annualized premium equivalent (APE) saw a modest increase of 1.3% to ₹5,254 crore. However, the value of new business (VNB), a key profitability measure, contracted by 8.36% to ₹1,261 crore, with the VNB margin falling to 24% from 26.5% in the previous year. The insurer's expenses rose by 14.51% to ₹4,925.23 crore, and commissions increased by 7.89% to ₹2,785.15 crore. HDFC Life has also received board approval to seek forbearance from the insurance regulator for transitioning to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
