Fuel prices in Bengaluru, Karnataka, have been revised, with petrol now costing ₹106 per litre and diesel at ₹94.10 per litre. This adjustment comes as state-owned oil companies respond to rising global crude oil prices, which have been influenced by escalating tensions in West Asia and disruptions in key supply routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. Oil firms had previously maintained stable prices for several weeks despite increasing input costs, but the financial strain from losses necessitated this revision. This change effectively ends a long period of stable fuel pricing that had been in place since April 2022, with only a minor reduction of ₹2 per litre in March 2024 prior to general elections. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri noted that the government may need to consider further price increases in light of the evolving global energy landscape. In response to the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to minimize unnecessary fuel consumption and consider remote working to conserve energy.
