Oil marketing companies in India have increased the prices of non-branded petrol and diesel by ₹3 per litre amid rising operational losses and elevated crude oil prices. Following this adjustment, petrol will cost ₹97.77 per litre and diesel ₹90.67 in Delhi. In Mumbai, prices have risen to ₹106.68 for petrol and ₹93.14 for diesel. This hike comes after weeks of speculation and follows significant losses, with companies reportedly losing ₹1,000 crore daily due to selling fuel at lower rates. Current crude oil prices are around $106 per barrel, exacerbating the financial strain on oil marketing companies. Despite these challenges, the government maintains that there is an adequate supply of crude oil, petrol, and diesel to meet domestic needs, with reserves sufficient for 60 days of crude oil and 45 days of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). However, some regions have experienced fuel shortages, leading to long queues at petrol stations.
