On Monday, the Supreme Court of India addressed the issue of vacancies in the Armed Forces Tribunal, urging the central government to respond to a plea for a swift selection process to fill these positions. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, noted that if vacancies are not filled, only three out of the eleven tribunal benches will be operational by the end of the year. The plea, filed by the Armed Forces Tribunal Bar Association (Regional Bench), calls for action in accordance with Section 5 of the Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007, which outlines the composition of the tribunal.
