The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, following the cancellation of her anticipatory bail by the Jabalpur High Court. This development is part of a significant investigation into allegations of dowry harassment and mental torture linked to Twisha's death on May 12 in Noida. The Supreme Court of India has mandated that the CBI take full control of the case to expedite the investigation process. Giribala Singh faces serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Section 80(2) for dowry death and Section 85 for cruelty to a woman by her relatives. Twisha Sharma's family has accused her in-laws of subjecting her to persistent mental harassment related to dowry demands. In light of the ongoing investigation, the Supreme Court has instructed both families to avoid media interviews to ensure a fair inquiry. The CBI is now proceeding with custodial measures to clarify the circumstances surrounding Twisha's death.
