Suvendu Adhikari has officially taken office as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has held this position in the state. The oath was administered by Governor RN Ravi at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Adhikari succeeds Mamata Banerjee, who served for 15 years and was a prominent figure in state politics. His leadership is expected to emphasize 'collective leadership' rather than unilateral decision-making. The BJP's victory in the recent assembly elections, where they secured 207 seats out of 294, has significantly altered the political landscape, dealing a substantial blow to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which managed only 80 seats. This ceremony is also notable as it coincides with the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a significant cultural figure in Bengal.
