In light of a recent tragedy in Goregaon, Mumbai is launching a significant anti-drug campaign called 'Mumbai Against Drugs' on May 1, 2023, coinciding with Maharashtra Day. This initiative follows the deaths of two students from drug overdoses during a music concert, which has raised alarms about rising substance abuse among the youth. Suburban Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha emphasized the need for preventive measures and community involvement, stating that while law enforcement has intensified efforts, long-term solutions require public awareness. The campaign will initially focus on Mumbai's suburban district and expand citywide, guided by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A 12-member committee will be formed to drive the initiative, including various stakeholders such as NGOs, police, and education officials. Mumbai BJP president Amit Satam highlighted the importance of engaging youth through social media and public spaces. The administration is committed to implementing the campaign rigorously, aiming for a collective movement against drug abuse.
