Rhythm Panchal, a self-styled exorcist residing in Malad East, Mumbai, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly cheating several individuals by claiming to possess supernatural powers and conducting fake exorcisms. The police report states that Panchal, who went by the name Baba, lured victims into participating in rituals by promising job success and resolving personal issues. He demanded various items for these rituals, including a goat's heart, black cloth, and a mixture of snacks, which he reportedly consumed himself while discarding the rest. Furthermore, he allegedly issued threats of harm or death to those who did not comply with his demands. The arrest followed a complaint from Anosh Edal Morena, who claimed Panchal was possessed by the deity Bhairav and conducted exorcisms to drive out spirits. Following undercover verification of the claims, police arrested Panchal, who is now charged under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. He was remanded in police custody for three days by a local court.
