The Delhi transport department has begun the process of selecting a firm to conduct a structural audit of the Maharana Pratap Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Kashmere Gate. This audit aims to assess the feasibility of adding vertical expansions to the terminal, which is a crucial transport hub for interstate travel, handling thousands of passengers daily. The audit will evaluate the existing structure's load-bearing capacity and explore future redevelopment options. The estimated cost for this audit and retrofitting study is ₹11.21 lakh, with a completion timeline of 30 days from contract award. The Kashmere Gate ISBT, originally redeveloped for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, has seen increasing passenger volumes, necessitating capacity enhancements and improved facilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Delhi government to modernize ISBTs across the city, including plans for the Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan terminals, which aim to create integrated multimodal transit hubs.
