The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to identify over 3,000 vacant land parcels throughout the city for surface parking, a move aimed at alleviating the persistent parking challenges and traffic congestion in Delhi. This decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, which included seven Delhi MPs and senior DDA officials. In addition to the identification of new parcels, the DDA announced that 232 plots are ready for tender, which can accommodate around 100,000 vehicles. These plots are strategically located across different zones in the city: 30 in Rohini, 23 in South, 53 in North, 98 in Dwarka, and 28 in East. The initiative is expected to significantly ease parking woes in the capital. Moreover, the meeting underscored the need for ongoing collaboration between the DDA and local MPs to tackle unauthorized occupations and encroachments, which were highlighted as major civic issues. The DDA plans to hold these high-level meetings regularly to ensure continuous dialogue and action on urban challenges.
