On May 17, 2026, the AIADMK district unit in Virudhunagar unanimously passed a resolution supporting Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the party leader following the recent general elections. District secretary K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji highlighted that more than one crore voters had cast their votes for the AIADMK's 'two leaves' symbol, reaffirming the party's connection with its supporters. Despite the party's challenges, particularly from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Bhalaji expressed confidence in Palaniswami's leadership, stating that he would restore the party's prominence. He noted that while the AIADMK secured 47 seats, the party's voter base remained strong, and he urged party workers to remain patient and focused on growth. Bhalaji also raised concerns about the TVK's inexperienced representatives and predicted that their government may not endure long. He reassured party members that the AIADMK would continue to advocate for the welfare of the common man, regardless of being in power.
