During a recent council meeting, the Kochi Corporation, led by Mayor V.K. Minimol, decided to seek an explanation from the contractor responsible for installing LED street lights across 76 divisions due to alleged service delivery failures. The decision came after councillors from various political parties criticized the contractor for indifference, which has led to public dissatisfaction. V.A. Sreejith, leader of the Left Democratic Front, accused the Mayor of failing to enforce oversight as previously agreed upon in an all-party meeting. Despite the contractor's claims of slowed installation due to an expired agreement, complaints arose from councillors about the lack of lights even in completed divisions. Independent councillor Bastin Babu alleged that the contractor inflated work claims, stating that only a fraction of the promised lights had actually been installed. Further concerns included high-mast lights removed for maintenance that had not been returned, prompting calls for better accountability and timely project completion.
