According to a poll conducted by the AFL-CIO, the largest labor union federation in the United States, over 90% of workers support pro-worker policies concerning artificial intelligence (AI). The survey, which included 1,588 respondents from April 14 to April 22, revealed that 95% of participants advocate for human oversight in AI-related employment decisions. Additionally, 92% support implementing safeguards against harmful AI applications in workplaces. The poll highlights a growing concern among workers regarding the potential misuse of AI, with 78% emphasizing the need for protective measures. Notably, 94% of respondents believe that employers should disclose the use of AI in monitoring work. The results indicate a clear preference for labor unions as the most trustworthy entities in protecting workers from AI's negative consequences, with 38% of respondents favoring unions over political parties and employers. Liz Shuler, president of the AFL-CIO, stated that these findings underscore the necessity for a proactive approach to AI governance led by the labor movement.
