Bengaluru faced a devastating storm on Wednesday evening, leading to two fatalities from electrocution in JP Nagar and Shivajinagar. Raghu, a 34-year-old cobbler, died after coming into contact with a live electric pole, while Sufiyan was electrocuted near a collapsed wall at Bowring Hospital. The storm brought 77 mm of rain in under an hour, along with hail and wind speeds reaching 50 km/h, causing severe flooding in areas like MG Road and Koramangala, where water levels rose up to 2-3 feet. The city’s power infrastructure was heavily impacted, with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company receiving around 25,000 distress calls, many unanswered. Over 50 electric poles were uprooted, increasing the risk of electrocution in waterlogged neighborhoods. Earlier, seven individuals were killed when a compound wall collapsed during the storm, highlighting the storm's deadly impact. Authorities are preparing for further thundershowers in the coming days.
