Violence broke out in Dantan, a town in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, just 48 hours before the first phase of elections. Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, including a candidate, were injured during a motorbike rally, which was reportedly attacked by individuals aligned with the Trinamool Congress party. Local BJP members alleged that their rally was peaceful until they were confronted by Trinamool supporters. In contrast, a Trinamool leader claimed that the BJP workers provoked the situation by entering a minority area and demanding chants of 'Jai Sri Ram'. Following the incident, multiple motorbikes were vandalized and set ablaze, with many BJP workers requiring hospitalization. The Election Commission of India has sought a report on the violence as concerns grow over the safety of candidates and voters ahead of the elections.
