The Maharashtra government is set to transform property registration services through a partnership with VFS Global, which is known for managing visa application centers. This initiative will establish 60 Model Sub-Registrar Offices, designed to offer a cleaner, more efficient, and user-friendly experience for citizens. Dr. Ramanand Nand from the Center of Policy Research and Governance highlights that while the state is outsourcing the facilitative aspects of service delivery, critical functions like legal verification will remain under government control. The aim is to reduce crowding and improve the overall experience, thereby fostering trust in public services. Additionally, digitization is expected to mitigate corruption by making processes more transparent and reducing reliance on middlemen. However, concerns about affordability persist, as service fees must reflect local economic realities. Transparency in contracts and performance standards is also deemed essential to ensure accountability in this new governance model.
