J. Nivas, the Andhra Pradesh Director of Census Operations, has reassured the public that personal information collected during the upcoming Census 2027 will be fully protected under the Census Act of 1948. He emphasized that individual data cannot be shared under the Right to Information (RTI) Act or used in court, ensuring confidentiality. The Census will not collect sensitive information such as bank account numbers or Aadhaar details, focusing solely on statistical data for national planning. The Census will be conducted in two phases: the House Listing and Housing Census, which began on May 1, 2026, and the Population Enumeration scheduled for February 2027. This exercise will utilize modern digital systems for data collection, including mobile-based methods and geo-referenced mapping. Special measures will be implemented to ensure the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as the homeless and transgender communities. Mr. Nivas highlighted that accurate data from every household is crucial for effective government planning and equitable distribution of development benefits.
